As a former resident of Swansea, I completely agree. Swansea's location is a blessing and it's a great platform to build on. Swansea has potential, but that's all it is currently.

As a nation, we should really be supportive of our fellow countrymen down West. A thriving country needs at least two cities firing on all cylinders (and not fighting against each other!). Hopefully they get their city deal too, and we can work to make South Wales an attractive place to invest and work.

The Swansea Bay city deal is basically a load of tax-funded investment in a university and some Wellness Villages. It looks rubbish.

I agree, Swansea is a total shithole!

Newport, with some investment could become reasonably nice.

oh dear! apologies to any Swansea folk looking in here. If it was the other way around and I was viewing a Swansea development type forum I would be very unimpressed. I would love to see them cracking on with the lagoon in Swansea and surely this £1.3billion will make some difference? Oh and they've still got 'the tallest!!' :geek: and the Gower pretty much within walking distance!! Ok this forum is pretty unregulated but I would always go for pro - cardiff rather than anti other Welsh cities (I appreciate that comments were made in the context of this thread but maybe the choice of words could be considered). Oh and I'm not a closet jack!!! perish the thought :)

As an ex-Jack myself, I tend to view this sort of thing as merely displaced jealousy: Swansea is geographically far superior and Cardiffians have a tough time dealing with it.

Bless.

I'm not from Cardiff, so my bias is not based on my birthplace.

I don't have anything against the Jacks and I've spent a fair bit of my time working on redevelopment stuff around the SA1, that tower etc.

So I feel entitled to say that Swansea is a shithole based upon experience.

Swansea is in Swansea, hence geographically it's about as far from the centre of the universe as you can get.

Whilst the gower is beautiful, it ain't Southerndown

Sorry but it's offensive to call it a shithole - just put it another way that's all. Cardiff being the capital of Wales I would like to think that people may look in here from around Wales and not just Cardiff. If I was from Swansea and saw your description of my home City I would feel pi**ed off with your terminology. If you went on to describe your reasoning then I may feel that you had a balanced point of view and may even agree with you. Just wanna keep this place friendly that's all

I mean... Swansea isnt the nicest area, but its in a good area for tourism etc. It needs to capitalise more on that!

Its referred to as Wales second city, however it wont be for long, I think once the metro is set up, and the Severn bridge tolls removed, Newport will grow substantially. People will move from Bristol to live there as the houses are three times cheaper, it has excellent road links (soon to be 2 motorways, although one is being re-classified) and its location between Cardiff and Bristol is superb.

It's a shame they ditched the Usk barrage in 1995
