Sorry, I meant number 4!

The number 5 site is cleared though. I'm a bit confused as to what they'll be doing with that
plot though. As we all know, they've got planning permission for a tower, but the site hoarding has the plot
as a 95,000sq ft office.

Maybe a new application is being discussed. It wouldnt surprise me given how positive the council have been regarding developments in the past few years. Planning success seems to be a given these days in certain areas

It just gives me a sense that Cardiff's council are REALLY trying to push the city upwards. Im really not surprised, I've always felt that Cardiff has quite an unfinished look due to all the developments from the 2000's being built quite tall, but having empty plots next to them. The sooner that darned Callaghan Square plot is filled in the better!

Worth looking at the Twitter feed of RVW, the Structural Engineers involved with Capital Quarter:
https://twitter.com/rvw_consulting
These guys are also involved in Bayscape.

I certainly won't complain about an increase in height. What I don't understand, is why the Welsh Government has sat on the land at Callaghan Square for so long? What were they waiting for? Or, what development did they hope to put there?

It's odd that we have a development like Capital Quarter that starts on the outside of the CBD and moves inwards. Usually developments move out as inner plots are taken (unless something is knocked down).

Work is under way on the A grade office 3 and 4 Capital Quarter office schemes that will provide 170,000 sq ft of new space
R Smart is currently on site building the latest phases of Capital Quarter with speculative A grade office schemes 3 Capital Quarter, at nearly 80,000 sq ft, and 4 Capital Quarter, which will extend to around 90,000 sq ft.

Yup, we know...we've been watching the sites ourselves.

Walesonline are behind the curve!

The article shows the new scheme yet to begin construction, but refers to it as the viridis scheme opening in September.

It's a dumping ground at the moment.

It'll be another office now I think instead of a tower. This article suggests it and the sote hoardings do as well.

To be honest I don't think the plot 5 plans are any more or less clear from this article!?? - I mean they show the proposed residential tower with the caption that it's the viridis student development? But the fact that on the hoardings the masterplan shows no.5 as an office means that perhaps that residential tower is no longer proposed - which is a shame. of course the residential was originally going to be at Herbert St, so they always planned to have a residential development as part of the capiital quarter. I guess we'll just have to wait and see (along with everything else!)
