Due to the fact that piling is underway and hoardings are being put up, I'm convinced enough that this *82 metre tower is going to be constructed. As a reward it gets it's own progress thread on this forum! I will post regular photo updates - here's one from yesterday...

*give or take a metre

I think this tower will really make Tyndal street part of the city center by masking the railway bridge, and hopefully with other Capital Quarter buildings help connect Atlantic wharf with the city center and increase foot fall and vibrancy in this rather pretty area.

As I said on the other post, it looks as if they are shoring up the canal wall ahead of the main works.

Makes sense from a safety point of view, but I hope the old character of the original wall is preserved, as it is around parts of Atlantic Wharf.

I see the CFA piling rig is now on site presumably for the main building:

Makes the use of driven piles on the No.4 site all the more curious.

I haven't seen the overall layout plan in a while but I'm assuming the canal doesn't feature as the landmark it should? This could be a great feature of a redeveloped site but looks like they are just going to build right up against it with no access?

Not sure how much of a feature is being made of the canal but I believe a pedestrian bridge is planned.

What about short water taxis from here to Bute Terrace just past the Big Sleep? - Gondolas? - actually as this is student accomodation what about those boats for punting? ok maybe not!!

Surprisingly you're wrong - the main entrance faces the canal and there's a bridge over it leading into the Capital Quarter Development

I'm glad they are doing that. I've noticed on the other side of the canal that the number 4 foundations go pretty much right up to the canal and judging by the pic above the path will go behind number 4 and in front of whatever number 5 will be.

Edit : Just walked near the site and there's ample room for a small path to the side of number 4 as well, which I guess they'd beed for access for maintenance etc anyway. It'll be interesting to see what they do with that. It would be a shame if the building just turned its back on the canal.
