Interesting. In my opinion it would make more sense to use the listed railway station for uh, I don't know, a railway station? It's a radical idea but it may come to be useful when they take the metro down there.

Totally agree - I mean presumably this station is planned to get a whole lot busier so surely it's worthy of more than just two platforms. This would make a great station and it's well located for the purpose!! I suppose it's just to much of a no brainer to happen?

Its single platform currently, no? If through-routes beyond Cardiff Queen Street are planned it may make sense to go to two platforms (and either dual or insert some passing points for trains/trams on the route up alongside Lloyd George Avenue / Bute Street). But anything more than that would be overkill. Any trains using it will likely to be in an out quite quick so with 2 platforms you could have a like 12-15 trains an hour pretty easily. The bottleneck is likely to be the tracks not the stations.

And while better shelters with a few seats and maybe a food kiosk would be good, I don't see we could find a transport use for the old station building. Maybe a waiting room on part of the ground floor, but.. it'll be a bit far from the tracks and this is the kind of station people won't hang around for too long, so seats/shelter right next to the platform would be much more practical.

Better to get the building fixed up and in use. Not sure I like this particular proposal but I don't see a transport-based scheme as viable.

Good news for Cardiff and Wales! It's great to see further expansion of businesses on the creative industries.

There is an application in for a 464 person student resi building on the corner of Newport Rd and Fitzalan Place. The proposal is to demolish Hallinan House - a very mediocre 70's specimen - and replace it with 4 interlinked blocks the tallest of which will be 32 storeys. It looks as though there have been extensive ongoing talks with the Planning Officers at the Council.

Link to the DAS is here - http://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online-a ... 911785.pdf

I'm not sure what to make of it. It really does look like 3 very different buildings. It's quite blocky so I understand why they have tried to differentiate between the blocks but not sure it works.

I quite like the design inof itself. And I think it would look good in an area where there were more buildings of 15 - 30 stories (or perhaps, counterintuitively, where it was on its own, with parks and a river for company). But I'm not 100% sure it works well given the existing cityscape. it looks a little awkward in the verified views in part 6 of the DAS.

There's no denying it, we're becoming a high rise city! If this proposal was made 2 years ago it would have topped this forum for weeks! Mind you this coming from out of the blue is still quite a shock - in my opinion a very nice shock! we've got ourselves a mini manhattan all in one building - really hope it happens!

Wow! I've always liked that stretch of buildings. Now it'll look like a real gateway to a city if this gets built. I didn't think it was Cardiff until I looked again!

Well that was unexpected. How tall is it meant to be?

I think the tallest tower is 97.5 metres or 319feet! pretty impressive for Cardiff
