I walked down Queen street from the castle end to Newport Road the other day - it is a particularly depressing sight down that end, many vacant units.

15-17 coming to Queen Street. At some point.
Noticed as there was something in the Times about them and department stores, I don't pay so only saw a snippet.

According to this group it's going into the old Debenhams. St.David's had mentioned that one floor was going to a leisure operator, unsure if this referred to 15:17. There's also controversy around the banned director of the company. Awful logo, looks like a kids shop or nursery.

It’s a shame this is closing but I’m not really surprised. Every time I have visited it’s been quiet - especially in the non-food section. The problem is it’s not quite large enough to hold a wise selection of, for example menswear to warrant a visit - especially so when Culverhouse Cross is only 10 minutes away. The same can be said for the food section although it was busy in the last few months when I visited. It’s a shame they aren’t retaining a food only store in that area as I think that may be profitable.

That means another large empty unit in that retail park with no one obvious to take a lease on it…..

A food shop could do well but would have to be a lot smaller, for clothing etc the Queen St store is nearby as is Culverhouse Cross, so it makes sense.

Ultimately they know how much money is coming through the tills so they make a commercial decision based on that.

I'm not sure a stand alone food store would work foor M&S in Leckwith. Western Cardiff is probably overserved by supermarkets already. In the space of three junctions of the link road you have Tesco & M&S at Culverhouse, Asda, Lidl & Costco at Leckwith and Asda (again), Morrisons & Aldi at Ferry Road.

There are only so many customers to go round and the M&S food offer isn't as distinctive as it once was.

Looks like the plans for the old Howell's / HOF building are pushing forward.

Seems there's a branch of Monmouthshire Building Society opening on Queen Street next door to Lloyds Bank. Quite a surprise addition!
