The video shows them building a multi storey car park, knocking down the RDC, and constructing a equivalent structure on a more compact but taller footprint

I opened video now. That looks great and similar to plans released in December. I hope that is what we get and not the uninspiring image in the render..
Build it and they will come.
Get it wrong and they will fall off.

I have gone through the whole site and now I think I understand: the developer Robertson Group will build the Arena and Hotel - which is what the render shows. Everything else is part of wider Masterplan - just not in Roberstons current scope. Confusing though...

A few interesting tidbits in there. Creative sectors hubs sounds interesting.

400 parking spaces to be lost which you'd hope would be more than offset by the investment in public transport. It'll drive the car-loving crowd mad though.

Net reduction of 400 spaces is probably about right as there won’t be a need for county hall staff parking.

This seems to have upset both the car lovers and the haters. I’m assuming that latter haven’t worked out that this is a net reduction in spaces or are naive enough to think that you’d get any investment for a venue like this without some car parking provision.

The existing surface parking is effectively free of charge so encourages even short distance travellers to use it. For a multi story I would expect to see pricing similar to the city centre NCPs.

With this plan I have always thought a foot bridge from the multi-storey on pierhead street to join up with a new multi story for the area would be a good idea

The amount of parking provision looks about right for a venue of this size. There will always be a need for parking because many of the events will be in the evening - if the show doesn't finish until after 11, public transport will not get you any further than the suburbs of Cardiff (and maybe not even that far). People travelling in from across South Wales and Bristol will mostly need their car.

And there's some additional detail here:
https://cardiff.moderngov.co.uk/mgAi.as ... gDocuments
(In the one document that isn't restricted from public view). It specifically mentions a footbridge link to the Pierhead Street car park. This would cross the dual carriageway just east of the tunnel portal, so I hope they come up with an elegant and perhaps interesting design.

There is planned to be a public exhibition of the proposals later in the summer, subject to whatever the rules about you-know-what turn out to be.

Mermaid Quay car park has permission for 310 new spaces so there won't be much overall loss in the area. It's not exactly a long walk.

Regards the footbridge, it was one the things I wondered about when I moved here. I can't understand why a foot/cycle bridge wasn't built in the first place.

Another insteresting tit-bit is the reference to "the proposed ‘This is Wales’ attraction".

I don't remember hearing mention of this before and have no idea what it could be!
