Great to finally see some detail on this, and the overall concept looks promising (goodbye Red Dragon Centre). Presumably the buildings in the images are representative rather than the final designs - I hope that good quality attractive materials such as brick, stone and slate are used in the facades, rather than cheap panelling which will become dirty and dated.

There seems to be a lot of empty space, especially in front of the arena. I realise that large events will result in big crowds milling about, but that large square could end up rather bleak when not busy. Perhaps the paving could be broken up with some grass and trees - or even put a lightweight transparent canopy over it?

I was trying to understand the metro layout. I like the new Interchange - but is this instead of new Cardiff Bay station which would have been relocated to the Flourish? I think if this is only station this is poor location - but if additional then a very positive development. I realise that two stations would be quite close, but a simple street stop near the Flourish location and a full interchange as shown would complement each other very nicely.

It woulod help if we can get a better resolution of the masterplan layout...it is difficult to read the plan on the low-res version...

If they are planning to build 1,150 new homes and a 15,000 capacity arena in this area, and are genuinely taking this seriously and want that arena sold out as soon/much as possible, they seriously need a re-think about the Eastern Bay link dual carriageway that was recently finished.

ALWAYS future-proof.

Once that road is linked to the a48M in the future, It will drastically change traffic patterns around Cardiff and become a busy road very quickly. Add a 15,000 arena and over a thousand homes and those two roundabouts will become overwhelmed instantly.

If you go to the Rio Architects website - the first image on the 'splash page' is a render of one possible outcome for Arena and Atlantic Wharf, which is brutal. I assume this is a 'devils advocate' option which was developed solely for the purpose of rejection.....

Future proofing or “predict and provide” for highway planning has long been out of fashion. The prevailing view being that more roads just generate more traffic. Besides, everyone is going to travel to the new arena by bicycle or metro!

i cant open the video, but if the third render is the final proposal that is a significant downgrading of the earlier plans. It looks like some major value engineering has taken place.

Less ambitious but maybe more deliverable and affordable.
