The quality LOOKs good. How did Ty Pont Haern look in its renders I wonder? Not like the carbuncle with "Public Lavatory Yellow" coloured panels we actually got I bet!

I've answered my own question, paul posted a pdf earlier in the thread.

Yeah and those pics remind me - I'm not sure about it.

Something so visible should in my view, be somewhat restrained. Its height gives it presence. It doesn't need a crazy colour pallete to do that - if its too colourful, it might just look odd and stand out "too much". I'd prefer something that fits in more with the colour scheme of Alto Lusso and the Radisson, even if there is then some metal work to give a bit more interest.

I don't like it and I think it fairly quickly become an embarrassment in the same way as that God awful student tower in Leeds.

At that height, a full 40 metres taller than anything around it, you don't need to re-invent the wheel. Something simple with good materials and decent sized windows will do the job. The design at present is not good. I've looked at their website and as far as student accommodation goes they are certainly not the worst of the bunch. Maybe they got carried away with the Cardiff proposal. I'd like to see the DCfW get involved and maybe some sort of strategy formulated for this part of the city centre which looks as though it's going high rise over the next few years.

I don't think those renders were as tall as 135m (probably about 105-115m), so a redesign may have already been made. I do agree that the original design does stand out a little too much, but it's still early stages. Chances are it won't look like that. And if it does, I'm sure some objections will be made to restrain it.

Jantra - i was replying to the post above which started with i hope, i hoped the quality was good, not stating it was good. I too have reservation about the colour scheme. Though i doubt it will be similar materials, the yellow colour scheme on the new Novotel in Canary Wharf is quite striking

Very nice, I like it (not just because of its height). I am sure it may change between now & being finished. I like the views from Rumney & Radyr directions.
