Latest news is Spring 2017, but I think this might be a bit ambitious.

Quite!

When I was at St. Fagans last, the reconstruction of the Vulcan seems to have ground to a shuddering halt.

No New News - Sorry!

But this tower keeps popping up in the media so I'm assuming there is still a desire for it to happen (mind you a certain glass needle did the same!! ) . This small article in praise of Watkin Jones ends with reference to it

So anyone know if we are likely to see anything happening here in 2017?

What with the recent and huge growth of Watkin Jones, together with the sale of the Bridge Street tower valued at £36m, I'd say it's a safe bet that if the Hope Street tower doesn't reach construction it will be down to logistics and the potential impracticality of building this huge tower on such a small plot next to a main railway line. It would be unlikely that financial limitations stop this tower from being built.

I'm pretty optimistic. I believe a spring 2017 commencement was mentioned in this thread?

Student property developer Watkin Jones

From his photo I'm surprised he is still a student!

Without going into detail, if it's not built, it will be down to the developers failing to reach an agreement with the owners of the adjacent land. As I understand, an agreement needs to be made between the two parties before this development can go forward.

That aside, it's fair to say that all involved have their hands full with Bridge St for the next few months, not to mention a similar £100M development in Stratford, London. It's not cancelled and I don't think it will be, but it has gone quiet again. I'd be surprised if the Spring 2017 target is met.

There is going to be a meeting between key stakeholders in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully we should have more details then regarding the future of this project. Will provide further updates when I can.

When I first saw this building, I knew it would be too ambitious for Cardiff.

On the other hand it could be good news!! ever the optimist that's me - I even fancy Cardiff City to sneak into the playoffs!! ;)

Anyway I really hope this project doesn't disappear - it would be so good for our improving skyline and Cardiffs very own 'super skinny skyscraper'! - all the trend in New York nowadays
