The perspectives in the 'mock up' are plain wrong.

It simply isn't possible to fit in that low level glass office building to the right of the Millennium Plaza (PureGym/Vue Cinema). It's quite embarassing because the person who works at the Western Mail who made this crap actually has to walk down (the innapropriately named) Park St to get to their own offices each day so should know this better than most lol

This is just Western Mail filler for the business pages. This kind of crap remins me of all the residential hysteria being whipped up about a decade back - lots of glass skyscraper images and we ended up with white render structures Altolusso and Celestia from Redrow.

Also why do all the people in mock ups look like they've been abducted and brought here from Milan? I mean 'Come On!' at least stick a few ugly people in tracksuits somewhere, as a nod to realism! ;)

Especially so when we're talking about outside the main train station! Even well heeled cities have that decidedly ropey feel around their train station entrances.

I doubt that BBC Wales will be using the view from outside their Central Square offices as the backdrop for their news programmes. Tracksuits, discarded cans of lager, dogs with neckerchiefs and people puffing away as if it's their last cigarette on earth would however make an eclectic mix should they prove me wrong :-)

I don't think this is the work of MediaWales - I think its an official render from Foster and Co, with some labels added by MediaWales.

I think we are forgetting the purpose of these kinds of renders. They are in effect, marketing images. So they show bright sunshine, beautiful sunrises and beautiful people. I recall the old Bay Pointe ones having fireworks going off in the night sky - as if thats a regular occurance in Cardiff! So, they add little details to make the place look more bustling or attactive - trees, people. If that is in the area outside the area of development, they clearly don't pay as much attention to detail.

I think that the "low rise glass office buiding" is part of the official indicative masterplan, as well. You can see it on this plan: http://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online-a ... 627711.pdf. Not sure why you think its infeasible to build.

No wonder I was confused - I can see upon closer inspection that they have simply erased the recently built Media Wales building on the corner of Park St ( is that likely to happen?). I had presumed that it was located behind the glass high rise in the pic, hence my confusion as to how a low rise building of approx 40m in width would have fitted into a street width (Park ST) of about 5m!

No the Media Wales building is behind the one you mention. Its all on the masterplan. And in fact, that "low rise" building is actually up to 12 stories - so it hides the Media Wales building behind it from this view. And this "low ris" building doesn't need to fit on to Park St, but instead replaces the western side of St Davids House.

I'm splitting hairs a bit here admittedly, but in the artists impression the low rise is only 5 stories high (even if it is up to 12 in the actual masterplan) and St David's House is currently 6 - so I naturally concluded that (from the viewpoint chosen) you should still be able to see the roof of the Media Wales building, which you clearly can't - so it screwed up my entire perspective and I presumed that it was therefor behind the tall tower.

As for fitting into Park St, I did agree in my last post that (once I realised where the footprint of the Media Wales stood) then it would indeed fit in because they weren't just squeezing it into the width of Park St!

To split hairs even further, while only 5 stories can be seen - you can't actually see the ground floor. So it actually looks like the render has more than 5 stories, although admittedly not 12.

That Media Wales building is a pig though, and would happily see it go. They only occupy 2 or 3 of the floors now, with the other 3 'To Let'. Doesn't seem to be attracting any takers though.

You're right - I thought the ground floor bit was the pavement. You'll have to allow for the fact that I'm at that age where long sightedness is kicking in :-)
