I've often thought a museum dedicated to some of the stories and characters from Dahl would be brilliant.
So many different interactive rooms you could have from Marvellous Medicine room, Wonka, BFG room, etc..

Sounds a lot more interesting than military medicine!

Why is it so important to brand Wales? what exactly do you want to happen?

To increase awareness and drive future tourism and investment. I would've thought that was obvious.

Think about regions of Spain as a vaguely similar example. Are you more likely to visit Andalucia, Catalonia or Cantabria? I'd suggest the average person would be far more likely to visit the first two due to their higher profiles. The same could be said of where a business might choose to invest. You won't visit a place or invest in it if you haven't heard of it and don't know 'what it's about'.

So to take tourists away from other areas to see Wales? I think we probably get enough tourist for what we have on offer in Wales.
You need to be realistic about what we are comparing Wales too, its not the Alps the Algarve, the cote dazur, we don't have a Rome or Paris, etc. We have some nice beaches in the west but so don many other areas of the world, we have small amounts of wilderness, but Wales is modestly Farm land and old industrial towns and a couple of small cities. You think people want to come and see that?

The point here is that the perceived lack of tourists is not related to how Wales is marketed or viewed elsewhere its just a simple reflection of how much interest Wales has for many potential visitors. Better to be honest and work from there rather than building expensive marking campaigns selling Wales as some funky hot tourist destination.

St Fagan's is great - and you're right that it's undersold and not well known across the border. I have on many times taken friends from England to it who had never heard of it (even having been to Cardiff University in the past) and they loved it. Helped that it is always a gorgeous sunny day when I take them but still...!

I also think that the modern history of Wales is lacking a place, as a few people have suggested...

When it comes to Cardiff, could more tourism focussed events and experiences take place? Edinburgh obviously has its bagpipe players in the streets, its ghost tours, and I'm sure a whole load of other stuff... a bit themed I know but people go in for it - perhaps a 'cooler' contemporary version...?

The last few weeks I have spent more time visiting the beautiful places we have here on our doorstep.
Wales is beautiful and has a heck of a lot to offer.
