So glad you did- they're excellent!

looks like finishing touches for the building now, looking forward to it being completed and occupied. Aren't there units at ground level looking for occupation?

Despite my initial reservations about its lack of height I think it will be a welcome addition to the city centre. Just think with the plans for the CBD coming to fruition, we may see a few more of these popping up over the next few years. Let's hope so.

It's ok isn't it. Will add a lot to that part of town but I wonder the effect on Greyfriars Rd. Is there any news on Capital Tower? Wasn't there talk of an hotel at one point?

As the new office is getting close to being finished I can't help wonder about Capital Tower as well. If it was any other office being emptied I'd be less interested, but this is one of the landmark buildings in the city so you'd really hope something half decent was planned but yet I've seen nothing in the news.

A hotel would be nice there, there's a bit of a cluster of them in that part of town and with the castle and museum etc so close it might be a good place for another one.

Great stuff another opportunity for me to show off the CARDIFFWALESMAP (eat your heart out glass needle!!) tower from ye olde message board - remember that one...... 釋春風無限恨,沉香亭北倚闌「幹

Image

ok, yes I know it's rubbish but 15 mins in photoshop doesn't get me enough to ask the bank for a £40m ish extension on my overdraft!! But seriously folks it would be fantastic if someone out there could see potential for this building - and not forgetting to stick a bit more on top! and preferably somewhere at the top where we can have a meal a coffee or a pint whilst we wait for Bayscape to be finished! ;)

oops sorry taken this somewhat off topic, where were we...

I walked passed the new Admiral HQ building on Friday and had a bit of a nosey look through the window of what will be the reception. It looks like it'll be very nice.

They are starting to move staff in this week.

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/business/business-news/admiral-begins-move-new-cardiff-7846014

I knew Confused and Admiral Law weren't moving to the building but I hadn't realised they employed 500 staff between the two of them. If they ever do move to another building it'll be a sizeable requirement for space.

I wonder what will happen to Capitol Tower ? It would be great to see a refurbishment or it being used for something else. If it is going to just be left as it is as office space it's a big old amount of secondary space for the city.

Interesting that the units on Barrack Lane are now mainly let presumably partly because of the imminant opening of Tŷ Admiral. Also some outfit called "Fed " appears to be going into the old Chinese Buffet on David Street - a restaurant of some kind, presumably.

I liked the idea of Admirals "Get Ready" rooms for staff going straight out from work into Cardiff. I imagine this is just an additional changing room (and make up room for women) thats not stuck down stairs by the Bikes... so nothing fancy. But it sounds good!

I wonder what will take up the 3 commercial units in Admiral. I reckon 5 Guys has got to be in the offing

The public realm between Admiral and SD2 is quite nicely done. The raised bed has been extended with a few more trees planted in it and there are a number of marble benches near the SD2 entrance. With the units on the ground floor of Admiral plus Barrack Lane filling up this will be quite an active area soon.

At the moment there is a very large hole in the ground near the service ramp. Is this for public art? I vaguely recall some anodyne shit being touted in the Echo many months ago. I think there were three possible pieces all of which were vaguely depressing in their corporate blandness. I can't actually remember what they looked like which tells it's own story I suppose. Also wasn't there talk of a water feature? Or was all talk confined to this forum ie. wishful thinking?
