Interesting to hear about LandSec buying Queen's Arcade though, wonder if they'll continue the consented scheme.

Given how many empty units there are in Saint Davids itself, I really can't see them keeping Queen's Arcade as it is. It's almost dead and the design of place, never great too begin with, is very tired. Personally I think opening it up as street was a great idea and I'd go with it, if I was them.

Agreed, they definitely don't need more retail units. The QA design is very dated and inflexible with lots of very small shops, so can't see it being viable as is. I imagine they've bought it with a view to proceeding with the redevelopment, possibly with a new design concept. Assume there will be a press release when there's something to show.

Have dug out the City Square plans and the unit that will use the old Debenhams space on the first floor, by the arcade bridge, is 24,000 sq ft. So we can assume the Hollywood Bowl will be in the Grand Arcade as it's 45,000 sq ft.

Minor news, but Topshop will be returning to Cardiff in 2026, as a concession within John Lewis.

WalesOnline published the press release for the opening of Cardiff's 26th Greggs in the St. David's Centre in the unit, IIRC, previously occupied by Trespass on St. David's Way. Anyone know, or care, if this will be actually be a new one or a replacement for the one about 75m away on Town Wall?

Not sure if it's an additional one but the new store will be a large, new style shop with seating for eating in.

I was wondering if it could have been connected to whatever Landsec have planned for the Queens Arcade, i.e. moving business out of there and |Town Wall.

It would be good to see a plan for Queen's Arcade, coming up to a year since Landsec bought it. No plans have been submitted to the council and can't see anything else online.

I think Landsec are probably developing a plan to redevelop both Queens Arcade and the original St Davids centre. Queens its all but dead, and although SD1 still has pretty good occupancy and footfall it is probably near the end of its life. The open square replacing the old Debenhams was classed as a 'meanwhile use' for planning, so that could also form part of a wider masterplan.
