There are small notices in the bottom corner of Sports Direct's windows that say "Closing for Refurbishment"

Well spotted Amoore! They're obviously going to close the store temporarily while the basement extension takes place

So DV8 has closed down, the upper floor is looking very barren now. No updates regarding any lettings either. A re-think is needed here or other stores may start bailing out. There was no-one but staff in Armani Exchange today.

New Store Openings!

1. Scotts

"Young menswear brand Scotts is opening its first store in Wales at St David’s shopping centre, Cardiff later this month. The retailer has signed a 10 year lease for a 1,965-sq ft unit with 2,042 sq ft of ancillary storage at 32 Town Wall".

2. Smiggle

"With 19 Smiggle stores currently open in the UK and up to 50 trading by the end of 2015, Smiggle's goal is to make children across the country smile and giggle every time they receive Smiggle! Our next store to open is Cardiff, St Davids Centre in May!"

I went into SD this week and the basement is now vast. Got a nice pair of Adidas trainers for my grandson's birthday. The staff are always helpful, prices are low and the choice is vast. I don't understand why people are snobby about SD.

An application is in for the former G Star unit in SD2. It is for Shake Shack who appear to be a US burger chain. I think this is their first outlet in the UK outside of London. In the planning app it also states that the long term aim is to change the unit currently occupied by Armani into A3 as well.

I think this could work, having restaurants at these 2 corner units will attract people from the main shopping area to the food section. Plus if the centre is unable to fill all the units with more traditional clothing shops, why not change them to restaurants.

I think this is a strong indication that A|X are looking to jump ship! I think it is fair to say that all of their regional stores are struggling... Armani Jeans would have been a much better brand to expand across the UK

I actually welcome the idea to expand Eastside into the Grand Arcade a little... Two extra units certainly wont go amiss
