I've just had a text off plaid. Since they are the first party in this election to bother interacting with me on any way they get my vote.

What a balls up this election has been for labour

This is a truly sparkling result for the Conservative party. It's 1992 with bells on. David Cameron must be wondering whether he's dreaming.

Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage could all be resigning as party leaders within hours, leaving Mr Cameron as the dominant figure in UK politics. I think last nights' result would almost have guaranteed him a further victory in 5 years time if he had not already said that he was standing down after the second term.

Not only that, what a sparkling future for the vulnerable with £12bn of welfare cuts to look forward to. All hail the Tories.

that is one way of looking at it. perhaps we can make inroads first with the reduction in universal benefits like child benefit. Why oh why is this given to everyone when not everyone needs it?

If I thought the exit poll was bad, the Tories have only gone and won a majority. WOW. Is this what it felt like in 1992? Atmosphere in the office today is like a funeral, seems so surreal. Did that really happen? So the era of a single party government isn't over after all.

Clegg resigned, Farage, resigned, Miliband resigned. Talk about the night of the long knives. The progressive left have got some serious soul searching to do and Labour needs to know what went wrong in Scotland and how to remedy that or they will be in opposition for another decade after this.

Ukip the third largest party ahead of the Nats. What's that all about? Who in Wales is voting for ukip and leaving the EU? Wales does very well being in the EU.

I've been asking people who said they intended to vote Ukip why and there wasn't a coherent narrative overall. The top thing was being anti-immigrant, but quite a few people either couldn't articulate anything beyond "teach the others a lesson" or were too ashamed of their reasons (see top thing) to want to offer them. But it's no more random than voting for the only party that sent you a leaflet.

Well I remember what the issue of Europe did to the Major government...

I felt that Cameron's heart was never really in it during the election campaign, I can't help but wonder if he was looking for another Con-Lib government to dodge the EU bullet.

Now there will be an EU referendum. If the decision is to leave and the Scots happened to vote to stay in there will almost certainly will be another independence referendum and chances are Scotland will decide to leave.

The forthcoming Assembly elections will be interesting especially if Plaid seize on the momentum built-up by the SNP.
