I thought that building was being done as soon as the current bus station is closed?

The BBC and Plot 2 share the same basement so the whole site will be excavated out and built back up to ground floor level. The hope then is that a tenant will be on board so that this building can go up at a similar time to the BBC.

That's going to a pretty big hole! Am I right assuming that the basement under plot two will be part of the BBC's parking area? That would seem to make sense as they wanted parking for over 200 vehicles - a lot more than would fit easily under the footprint on their own building.

Exciting times for Central Square! Maybe the '30yrs overdue' wait for an area a capital city can be proud of could just be worth the wait! looking forward to the flattening of bus station now - that shouldn't take long! and some pretty encouraging hoardings - august ish

Today's Echo is worth a buy in print. A few pages dedicated to it.

Looking at this more, am not sure I like the design of the buildings on top of the bus station. They look rather heavy, and worry that they look a bit "futuristic" in a kind of 1960s sci-fi style with their curving walls. I think something more angular might actually work better.

How about the boring square plastic grey box that is 1 capital quarter? Would you prefer that? I quite like the design of the buildings above the new station, although the actual finished buildings in Cardiff never seem to quite look like their planning designs, so who knows what they will turn out like.

I was at Central Station yesterday so went to have a look at progress on Number 1 from the platform.

It must be nearing topping out, must be up to 9 floors in some parts. I'm looking forward to seeing cladding begin. We'll soon start to see how close to the designs this whole project is going to be when that happens.

I drove past it earlier as well. It certainly is an impressive size so if materials are right it really will be an excellent start. Nobody should lament the possible passing of Marland House & the bus stop, they are really tired so should bow out gracefully.
