Looks like Legal & General will be bringing a lot of additional jobs to Cardiff (and potential relocations) with the announcement that their biggest site is closing, the detail is here: http://www.surreymirror.co.uk/Legal-General-proposes-leave-Kingswood/story-26714863-detail/story.html

I don't think there are enough numbers on the keyboard to type how much 50 acres in residential Surrey could be worth, I've heard this will complete within just a few years and way before the official 2025. No sign of any fancy new premises here unfortunately, sounds as if they will just take extra space in Brunel House and fill up the room they let go over the last few years. Still, great news for jobs here, all of the Kingswood site is core back office functions, actuaries, etc.

With all the rumours of potential occupiers for Central Square, Capital Quarter and Callaghan Square in the press over the last few months the one, for me, least likely to move has always been L&G. Their name has come up again and again in the press over the last few years but they've always remained where they are so it wouldn't shock me if any new jobs go into Brunel House and other existing office buildings in the city.

It would be great for the city if quite a few roles come here out of the news in the article you linked to and in a way I'd be quite happy for them to stay at that end of town. As much as I want the new schemes to be successful I don't want major existing office blocks like Capital Tower and Brunel House empty either, it just wouldn't be good for the city. Besides, if offices like Brunel House are full then it makes the need for new space for other new jobs just as important.

Fingers crossed Cardiff gains quite a few roles out of this.

There's blank wooden hoardings up in front of one of the ground floor Admital units. Anyone know what they're for?

Presumably one of the units has been let and it's fit out time ?

On a different subject, the L&G extra jobs potentially coming ot the city has made the Western Mail today

As usual the article brings up the subject of their office requirements, see below

"The expansion could also bring to a head L&G’s long-term property requirements in the capital.

It currently has short-term leases on office space at Brunel House and the nearby Knox Court.

L&G has in the past been linked to a new 100,000 sq ft headquarters in the city, including for critical systems security reasons, potentially two separate locations of around 50,000 sq ft each.
But it could also opt for a single building or take on new space at its existing locations, where it has to give two years notice to exit its leases. L&G is being advised by the Cardiff office of chartered surveyors Knight Frank."

The main thing is that there's a decent chance of a few hundred roles being created in the city, whether through relocations or brand new jobs, but based on what someone else (seemingly in the know) said above they are probably just taking existing space. There's nothing in that article to suggest otherwise.

How let is Capital Tower now? Worth considering a conversion into a hotel/apartment/leisure complex?

There is an application for 6 storeys of student resi at 21-27 City Rd. It's currently a surface car park/car lot and is a few doors up from the 9 storey student resi that has recently received planning permission which is itself a few doors up from the 11 storey CAVC building that is also being converted to student resi.

I didn't know where else to put this but I just wanted to say that dixie looks good imho and fits very nicely in to the streetscape blending well with the bonded warehouse next door

Good to see this building refurb almost done, and interesting that they are confident of letting the building soon. What pleases me most is it hasn't been converted into apartments or student accomodation, there's plenty of that going on elsewhere.

I know I'm in a minority of 1 but I really like that building.
