The idea may be to have waiting areas above the buses on the first floor, so they can fit more buses, and have commercial units facing the street on the ground floor. If that were the case, I'd put a first floor level link between the station and the bus station, rather than a ground floor one. Would also mean that the route down Saunders road still remains more porous to pedestrian traffic.

Demand wise maybe it's that government organisation (presumably back office stuff from London) who we heard some rumours about some months back. Are they close to signing at The Interchange building ?

Then there's Number 2, which at around 100,000 square foot would work for Deloitte maybe ? Or those PwC jobs we heard about (again a while ago)? Or maybe one or two of the other current employers that we keep reading about needing space in the future are close to moving there ?

I guess if they are close to finding a buyer for the BBC site it frees up some cash to build Number 2 as well.

Who knows, but if what that bloke said is true it might explain why the Welsh Assembly haven't gone ahead with their Callaghan Square office yet.

Today's pic of the day - where is it from? It appears there is a walkway around the back of number 1? Is this correct?

I noticed the same thing. Unless the walkway is for the borrowers then the pic is wrong just like most designs you see. There is no room there for that line of trees never mind the pedestrian walkway. The new building is right up against the car park.

No. 1 is coming along great! This should look really good when it's finished.

Has anything happened at the bus station yet? It has been closed for over a month now and as far as i can see all they have done is put some hoardings around it! I had expected by now that a bulldozer would have come in and knocked those hideous bus shelters down, but they are still standing! What are they waiting for? Are they trying to break the world record for the slowest demolition/construction set by the snails working on the southern entrance to the train station?

I thought this as well, I walked around by #1 central square to take a look inside, expecting it all to be cleared. All that was missing were the people and the buses.
Notices now up everywhere say demolition of Maryland House soon. Most of the ground businesses are either closed or just about to, and the main entrance is all boarded up, feels very 28 days later.

Until the BBC Deal for the Rightacres development is actually "signed off" CCC cant really pull down the bus station.... The BBC deal will release the funds for the Marland House development. It will happen.... just need to let the legal process run its course.

I know legals can take time but when all parties agree to the deal I often wonder what the hold up is.

After years of me saying that Legal and General would never move from Knox Court and Brunel House (including the old forum when I did actually work there!) I've heard this week from a very reliable source that they have signed for Number 2 Central Square but will continue to expand in to Brunel House until the building is complete. I hope this turns out to be true but not sure what the future would hold for some of the older buildings like Brunel House as they currently occupy around half of the building.
