That venue at The Square will never work... the sort of ideas they're talking about would take millions to do properly and I see nothing to suggest they have that much at their disposal.

I imagine it's in a right state inside too so you're probably right. I'm also not sure that mega bars are the way forward, it's a very late 90's thing and can imagine that the new Square would only really be busy on international days.

It would be better to break it up into smaller units, a couple of restaurants and a small bar/club.

Has anyone been to the new Bierkeller by the way? Am wondering if that's doing well.

I always thought it would have made a good TGI Fridays, had there not been one in St Davids.

The building is not far off the state the Capitol was in when they demolished that.

I went to Bierkeller two Saturdays ago, it was packed & was a fun night out. If you have a large group of friends it is a really good night out.

Another restaurant set to open somewhere on Whitchurch Road is the Urban Standard, they have 2 in Bristol.

It may be old news but EAT is opening in SD2. I think it's in the unit that has been vacated by Jack Jones and is being subdivided. From my time in London EAT is like a slightly more upmarket Pret a Manger and I think they will do really well in Cardiff. It's a bit of a coup as well - outside of London and the south east I think they only have branches in Mcer, Brum, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Eat have better hot food and soups than their rivals and a good Bircher Muesli with blackberries in it. Good!

There is an application for the Italian Gelato and Ice Cream Co to move into a unit in St mary St next to Beanfreaks (formerly occupied by Bernsteins Curtains who are now moving to a unit in High Street that was occupied by High and Mighty).

Barkers are currently renovating their shop front facing High Street which will then house an extension to the coffee shop. I fully expect them to apply for a licence to sell alcohol and open late once that happens. I'd imagine that it would be a popular hang out for the hipsters. Expect artisan craft beer for £4.50 a bottle etc.
