I went for a site tour at 2CQ yesterday; it is looking good with a glass atrium rising up from reception to floor six and a huge balcony at the top with views over Atlantic Wharf to the Bristol Channel. Sadly the weather was awful so no pictures; I could just about make out the shape of the millennium Centre!

The views west over Callaghan square and central square were also good from above; the curvature of the Eversheds building looks good next to the railway lines through central station and contrasts nicely with No 1 Central Square. It's not a view that will last forever so I'll try to get a picture next time, poor weather or not!

Hopefully number 3 will be given the green light tomorrow and they can then start in March as planned.

I walked over the footbridge the other day and the student housing plots were quite busy with foundations going in. It'll be nice to see those buildings go up as it'll fill the gap between the Driscoll buildings and the newer office buildings.

Between that, number 3 starting and the car park being completed this year it leaves one or two plots.

This probably should go in the cafe/restaurant thread, but I've put it here due to their first opening being in Number 1 Capital Quarter.

Oh FFS

The KIN+ILK concept is set to take the lead in this trend and offer customers the next stage in the local coffee shop experience.

I almost choked on my Fair-trade, organic, hand roasted, artisan, high altitude, locally sourced frappuccino!

Indeed, "artisan" and "craft" are two words the put me off when I see them. I actually like going to independent cafes, coffee shops etc.. but the fact people fall for this marketing B*llsh*t is just depressing. Add either of these words and you can charge a hefty mark-up.

On a different note - why did Finance Wales support the launch of a coffee shop? I thought Finance Wales was there to fill a gap in the market, funding businesses with high risk but potentially high reward, that today's more risk-averse banks might be reluctant to touch. A coffee shop doesn't seem like such a venture. There was something similar with a bar a few years ago (in the old County Club on Westgate street).

Finance Wales should focus its resources on risky investments in high value added sectors. Not coffee shops, ice cream parlours and burger bars!

I read that as well Ash. My initial reaction was get a grip it's coffee and snacks you bellends. My second reaction was why the frig are Finance Wales stumping up a £150,000 loan for what is in effect a coffee shop -

”The launch has been financed with the help of a £150,000 Finance Wales loan.

Mr Davies said: “Through the Welsh Government, we were introduced to Finance Wales and they have been key in providing the right financial package to support the launch of the KIN+ILK brand in the phased manner we w

They may have pretensions to grow into more than one coffee shop but still, it's hardly cutting edge stuff.

Grrr Random Comment beat me to it by 3 minutes. I shouldn't have popped out for my hand crafted artisan 100% arabica bean roasted by genuine Columbians and topped by locally sourced free range milk from cows bred on grass grown on south facing slopes only coffee.
