I don't think it's due for completion until the summer. Perhaps we are jumping the gun a bit?

On the subject of Fusion Point I really despise Phase 1 and Phase 2. Both are awful buildings made even worse by the surface car parks fronting the road. All of the recent development in that corner of CS/Dumballs Rd (AA/LLoyds/Arriva Trains) is utterly awful (with the possible exception of the Council Housing Offices with Huggard Centre attached which at least looks as though it belongs somewhere near a city centre).

I'll take a look at the student resi development when I'm back. Sometimes thinks will look better when finished - there may be facing panels to go in areas, for instance. But if the materials and finish is not what was agreed on or featured in images, the council can request changes I think.

Re: Fusion Point. I agree, the existing buildings, especially No. 1, really are more Cardiff Gate than Cardiff Central. The new one fronts directly on to the road, with no car park out front. That should have been a condition for the first phases I think - even in the early 2000s when these were being built, there were major plans for the Dumballs Road area. And Callaghan Square was supposed to be the major new urban square and office development, and these were right next door.

Slightly inevitable. It's not a particularly notable building but its still a bit sad to see it going.

Fusion Point phase 2 has parking out front - just not as extensive as phase 1.

No I meant Phase 3 will have no parking out front. Can hardly call phase 2 new now - its 11 years old apparently!

Aah...I see. Eleven years old you say - time for it to be demolished I reckon.

Edit. In response to Random Comment - not Jantra. I don't want people to think his stripper was 11 years old.....

There are panels to go on the front. If you look at the planning drawing elevations and CGIs, you'll see that the upper storey is inset and clad with some sort of metallic rain-screen cladding, which I would agree, looks terrible in isolation.

The lower sections, however, are to match Sainsbury's on the Newport Road elevation, with some sort of composite stone/concrete panel and brick on the the others. I doubt very much that they'll be laying bricks at height (that's rarely done these days), instead they'll probably use brick sips fitting to panels that will bolt on the front. From the outside you really won't know the difference.

They only way they could have changed this is if they have applied for and recieved a planning ammendment.
