yes not much space for thousands of fans to come down there.

The portacabins are no longer occupied as the operation is now being controlled from the end unit of st davids house. Also I noticed having just passed, that the hoarded area is to be increased towards Number 1 presumably as Number 2 will be constructed at the same time as the BBC. It's a hive of activity at the moment! Regarding the Marland house walkway - this is becoming a real problem, and getting through without being asked for 40p for a bus home is quite a challenge!! Pretty grim indeed god knows what first time visitors to Cardiff must think :( oh well no pain no gain I suppose

40p is so specific!

I think a meeting has been held :) and a decision made that 40p is the optimum amount to ask for!! I know it's a little odd but recently when I've been approached it's for 40p!

Exacly, no pain no gain.

Besides, if you think about it the crowds for the six nations games are a bit different to the World Cup ones where there were lots of problems with lots of the fans travelling from England by train.

Not so many people will come through the front of the station as they direct many home fans around the back who will then walk up St.Mary's street, many away fans will fly in and some will be on buses. So many will be headed for pubs and will be staggering their arrival and the same is true after games.

Although saying that we have France on the Friday night, so that one might be more of an issue.

It can depend on how much space there is on the site. I'm not invovled with this scheme, but it looks as if they are putting in CFA piles and they're doing that from the existing ground level. If there are basement floors, then they'll put the piles in with some sort of debonded rebar at a certain level and cut them down to the pile level when they excavate out to create any basement carpark.

It may seem silly to do this, as it's a waste of matierals, but you have to consider that it may not be possible to do the excavation first to start the piles at the pile cap level. This would require you to get a very large piling rig into a small excavation. There's not enough space on this site to construct a ramp and it's not ideal to crane these things into a large hole in the ground.

Secant piling (interlocking CFA piles) to perimeter, capping beam, dig out to bottom of basement, CFA piles within basement, pile caps and core bases, stair cores to full height / concrete frame up to ground floor level, steel frame / metal decking, glazing / precast concrete cladding, fitout, commissioning. Dig started last week. Let me know if you have any queries as I have a slight involvement.

Out of interest, how deep is the excavation? It didn't look like you had the space to dig down to the bottom and then CFA piles in the basement?

How are you maintaining stability of that perimeter wall? Is the wall strong enough to cantilever or are you going to use anchors or struts?

I'm also curious about the steel frame. Are you going for a cellbeam with metal deck for the services, like with the Admiral building?

A screening opinion request has gone in for 2 Central Square. No new drawings or D&A statement, but suggests that they are getting moving on it...

http://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online-a ... APR_115339

One thing that has happened is an increase in size. Rather than 7 floors it will be 8 floors, with an incresae in gross square footage to circa 180,000 square feet. I'm not sure what that will mean in net lettable space - maybe something like 3/4 of that? Thats gotta be a good sign. Does it perhaps suggest a specific named tenant in mind?
