I really like that development, a very good design unlike a lot of the crap in the bay, and NO render!

It is a shame about The Wharf through, I used to go there when it first opened as I lived in Atlantic Wharf for a year or so. It was a great pub and a really cool building which should have still been successful. Last time I went in there it was a ghost town with a few random chavs dotted around. I think Brains were after the cash for the site so gave up on it a while back.

I actually thought the Wharf was a conversion of older buildings. Shame if it went, as that would leave no where around Atlantic Wharf to go as a destination.

I wonder how often those saying it's a shame have shown The Wharf regular custom over the years.

It's a real shame to lose the Wharf, it's that rarest of things, a modern building that looks convincingly old.

I suppose I can't complain though, I hadn't been there for years either.

There is an interesting application in for the demolition of Northcliffe Lodge on Penarth Head and the development of three seperate block of flats. The development, if it goes ahead, will be almost directly above the Custom House and Marine Hotel at the Penarth end of the Barrage. The application is on the Vale of Glam website.

The renders look very good and I think will improve the vista quite a bit. The architects are Loyn & Co who are usually involved in smaller scale residential projects. Their website gives a flavour of what they do and most of the projects they have designed look quality. They are one of the better local outfits (in my opinion).

Yeah - I agree. It certainly looks better than the rather odd "lodge" that is there now. But cue claims that this building is somehow "historic" and part of the town's heritage from some local campaigners...

Do you have a reference for the application? Having trouble finding it. Thanks.

Interesting application for Trade Street between Callaghan Square and the river -

http://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online-a ... 766433.pdf

The application is for 97 apartments in an L shaped block incorporating some of the existing older buildings. It's been called South Central and it appears to be an attempt by the developer to create a sort of urban, edgy, city centre neighbourhood presumably aimed at creative types and/or young professionals. At least thats what the DAS says.

The plans actually look quite good and build upon the Council's stated aims for this area. There are some industrial style nice buildings here and in and around the Brains site across Penarth Road.

At some stage the area between Trade Street and the river must be opened up as well. At the moment there are some really shitty corrugated steel warehouses, a storage place and a kids play centre.
