Time will tell! Pronounciation is an unpredictable thing and people may even end up calling it something else entirely. It could well end up being referred to as Cardiff Gate or if the estate agents get hold of it "East Cyncoed"! It's like the people who live in Danescourt always claim to be in Llandaff. I'm not even going to mention Pontcanna - I know how it sets you off...

I want to know the prices have they given that info yet.

Site clearance started last week - lots of heras fencing going up, earth movers churning up the site, site offices being set up... Safe to say this one is go!

There are a couple of application for minor amendments to the previous planning consent. Mostly to do with substituting house types. It does look as though it will be a Persimmon cookie cutter development. I hope it's a step up from Pontprennau in terms of density and place making but in architectural terms it will be absolutely bog standard.

Ely Mill is similar. It was to be Cardiff's version of the BedZed development in Sutton - cutting edge archirtecture with impeccable green credentials. From the latest renders that appears to have been binned in favour of a very conservative approach.

I suspect Waterhall/Plasdwr will be similar if the volume house builders are on board.

Is this a case of the volume builders giving the people what they want or a complete lack of ambition?

I think its probably a mix of "giving people what they want" and risk-aversion (as opposed to lack of ambition) on the part of developers. Domestic architecture is generally more conservative than commercial. And I imagine its more conservative in South Wales than it would be in the London area.

If developers are 'giving people what they want' then there must be some funny ideas going around about what constitutes quality. I was in the process of selling a house a couple of years ago, one built about a century ago and the estate agent who came round with me made the point that it was a god house and a pity we don't build more like this nowadays! So we could do it 100 years ago but not any more.
