When Brød, at the top of Wyndham Crescent, opened I felt quite sad. 15 years ago this was a thriving junction with a real bakery serving bacon&cheese savouries etc, a post office, an off licence and a general store.

Now we have Brød, Betty Biggs and Bully's! All out of my price range and comfort zone.

15 years ago this was Canton. Now it is Pontcanna.

All joking get aside I used to love the chippy on the corner of Severn road and Wyndham Crescent. Many an afternoon was spent in there playing hunchback

... which is still a chippy but now has the twee name "Rock and Malt".

Change is just change, I guess. I loved Janes, the old-fashioned ironmongers opposite Victoria Park which has recently become Pettigrew's Bakery. Good luck to the new business - I think they'll do well, but it's another sign that the old working-class Canton has more or less gone.

It's not really an issue. I grew up in the area and will always refer to it as Canton or riverside although fully appreciate over time the area has had somewhat of a rebrand so estate agents can charge double.
