That is exactly my point!

It was not down to me that Bayscape is still a concept seven years later, despite multiple press releases and more words written about it on here than your average Shakespearian history play.
Don't get me wrong, good luck to Christopher and his efforts trying to get a complex development off the ground, but posts on here to my mind is a distraction and is won't progress the project one iota.

This is great news Christopher and thanks for sharing - as the owner of this forum I wish you good luck with your project! As you are well aware plenty of our (and your) original enthusiasm surrounded your tower proposals (phase 2) and I was present at the Jantra hosted evening when you kindly explained that to us and we all shared excitement for your proposals. Great to see in your post that these still exist and I'm sure a successful phase 1 will now move those plans for the tower in the right direction.

Regarding this forum - Anyone who has been looking in for a while will know that it is not 'policed' very heavily - indeed hardly at all! I believe posters on here are just interested in the development of this city - when we hear of a potential development we are hungry to see things moving along. Sometimes proposals just come and then die a death - and prior to bayscape I'm sure you are well aware of some of the pie in the sky proposals for this area from manhattan to dubai, with some las vegas thrown in for good measure So I guess you were always going to be in the firing line when things haven't gone as quickly as we all (including yourself) thought they might. But as you say this is your money on the line and for you to decide when the time was right - I think most people reading this completely understand that. Therefore I'm sure we all are really pleased that the time is now right and wish you well!

I can't even say I blame you for not posting updates - heh you're doing enough! - but rest assured we will follow bayscape developments with enthusiasm and I feel very confident that what you deliver will have a very positive effect on the evolving 'sports' peninsular. Good Luck!

Apparently it's aluminium, so I doubt it's cheap.

It's probably worth mentioning that anodised aluminum panels were actually used on the upper levels Empire State building. It's not necessarily the material that is the problem, it's how it's used!

Bayscape Phase I Commencement

I can advise as follows:
- I am now satisfied that the economic and project dynamics warrant a commencement
- The construction contract has been awarded to BECT and following a 10 week lead in time construction will start in June / July 2016 and complete in early 2018...

Well if the tower is to go ahead, may I say that it'll make a welcome contribution to Cardiff's skyline!

May I also say, that as the engineer for two major projects that will commence in Cardiff later this year, it is nice to hear what people have to say about your work, positive and negative. But it should never be personal and there's no need for trolling.

It's sad, but there are some people on this forum (and others) who would never be pleased with anything propsed for Cardiff. You could have the world's best architects, engineers and developers sparing no expense and you'd have people on forums like this whining and whinging about something. "Oh the disruption..", "The materials are terrible", "The colour is awful..", "it's destroying Cardiff's character", or whatever. I got into a taxi the other day at Cardiff Station and for 15 minutes the taxi driver couldn't stopping moaning about the Central Square development and how concentrating these buildings around the station was a bad idea for business (his business particularly)!

Yes, I'm critical of some developments and I think that constructive criticism is a good thing. But there are some people who are never happy and seem to want to make it personal. It stinks of that narrow-minded, backwards, anti-ambitious Welsh attitude that we still haven't managed to shack off yet!

In all fairness to the majority of the people on this forum - I think they have a far more positive response to various projects - unlike that taxi driver and plenty of the nimby type public! I think that the very fact they visit this forum means they are more interested in what is actually happening in Cardiff rather than just moaning that 'they are building flats everywhere' and wondering why magnificent historic buildings like marland house need to be flattened in the name of progress!!

Anyway don't want to digress from Bayscape...

This is excellent news. I recall the presentation very well and whilst I'll be the first to admit I had my doubts about whether this would start given the longevity, I'm happy to be proven wrong and wish Christopher and his team good fortune - the quality in this project was very high by Cardiff's standards

I like the thought of the Sports Village area adding to Penarth marina in creating a buzzy, vibrant area.

Great news!!!!! Good luck and it will be nice to see the river Ely developments move ahead and connect more with Penarth, even if the exciting tower and hotel are still a little way off.

Like Christopher I stopped posted comments to this forum. Now that Bayscape is going ahead, I look forward to seeing the marina developed. In the design specs, the cladding is described as looking like ship planks and not out place with the development across the road. I also note that the apartments in the nearby developments are virtually sold out. So I can understand the commencement timing to bring the next lot of high quality housing onto the market.

Really looking forward to the retail development at the end of the foot bridge. A coffee shop in that location will be booming. Please no chain barista. Why not give a local independent the chance to provide something better than what we get in any centre in any place?
