the welsh office is a quality building and a great example of brutalism done well. it really fits in with the various styles surrounding it as well which is no mean feat.

West Lee - it has its merits and I quite like the unite building next to it, even if it houses the most work shy bone idle never stop moaning expect others to provide them a living individuals this side of the severn.

Another overlooked 70's building which I personally like but I know others will hate is West Lee in Cowbridge Rd East (next to Transport House).

I love the West Lee flats, lovely bit of "brick brutalism."

They're particularly great in comparison to the mock-Georgian crap built next door.

I like Shand House, that style of 1950's architecture I like as its a continuation of similar styles from the 1940's and 1930's. But it's not a patch on the original building for the Blind Institute:

I'd put the The Empire Pool in a similar category. But I'm not sure what it would like like today.

Brunel House is in need of a facelift, as does Capital Tower.

Stadium House is utterly awful and the refurbishment/re-cladding has just made it worse!

The trouble is, many 1960's buildings look fantastic in old black and white photographs (just look at the works of Nervi), but they don't age well at all and you get a lot of problems with the concrete that are difficult to repair.

When they did the admiral building they saved the trees that were on the plot - I've forgotten where they replanted them now but it was in Cardiff somewhere. Anyway hopefully that will happen again, it would be a great shame to just demolish/kill them. Perhaps they are a bit to mature to be moved? - I feel concerned for them now :|

I never had you down as a tree-hugger, Paul! Maybe you could build a tree house and chain yourself to the branches.

Treehugger? me!.... don't knock it til you've tried it!! :)

As much as I hope there is a plan for those 'innocent' trees - on this occassion they'll have to take one for the greater good of Marland House being flattened!! ;) personally really looking forward to seeing that disappearing - unfortunately completely revealing that car park (in the short term anyway). Things are progressing that's the main thing
