When does the horrible St Davids House across the street get torn down? Only then will Central Square look like something we can be proud of!

I hope this development turns out well but I would have preferred they had torn down Wood St and put the BBC headquarters there and left open space in front of the station.

Let's hope it's 2018! Although at the moment Boots are fitting out the end unit. That probably costs a fair amount so they'll want to be there at least 2 years, also greggs and tescos havent been there for to long. When st davids house bites the dust and what is planned is constructed the whole area will have completely changed and very much for the better. I dont think many will be nostalgic about the loss of marland house and st davids house! Although someone will probably write to the echo and moan about the loss of these fine buildings! :roll:

According to this article the central square student accommodation scheme (I believe to be the 30 odd storey tower planned on wood street) is due for completion 2017/18. If that's true then they really need to get a shif on.

from the article some of the largest projects proposed...

647 bedroom at the West Wing, Glossop Road, from Mace Real Estate, with a completion date yet to be confirmed;
463 beds at Charles Street/Bridge Street, from Watkin Jones, scheduled for completion in September 2018;
447 beds at Custom House Street, from Watkin Jones, scheduled for completion in September 2018; and

430 at Central Square, from Rightacres and L&G, scheduled completion date of 2017 early 2018.

Good point Phil - if it were to be the case then they would presumably have to start the development very soon, and I believe in a different order than the original masterplan of Central Square. No demolition is required at that site (above ground anyway) so we'll have to watch that space!! If anybody out there knows anything about this one then please give us a clue!! we'll keep it under our hats - honestly! It will be great to see a tower taller than stadium house - just across the road from it.

While we are here, an off topic quicky... we are well aware of the two substantial watkin jones projects, but what about that 647 bedroom glossop road one - that's pretty big, I haven't seen any plans for that one? can anyone wise me up?

Well done - I failed to find anything on my search!

Wow that's a lot of construction in a pretty small area! Plenty of glass, could look very nice. I wonder if this will proceed?

I think it deserves it's own thread which I'm going to start now

This one is back to Central Square...

RIO Architects did a scheme design for a student-resi tower on Wood St around the time that they were designing No. 1 Central Square, but this scheme was not taken forward and I'm not aware of any plans to revive it.

With Foster + Partners doing No. 2, No. 3 and the Bus Interchange, it's unclear who is actually doing the latter stages (i.e. Wood St) and what will actually be built. I don't know if the design team for the latters stages have even been appointed.

As an aside, if was planning this scheme, I would have put the tower on the site now occupied by No. 1 Central Sq, where the "Glass Needle" was proposed some time ago. There's too much build up around the stadium and it would have been nice to have some public space around it.
