I quite like the phrase! I would never personally use it, but It's just a cheesy little tourist line similar to I<3NY and the countless rip-offs of that. It's friendly and embraces the local "dialect", and I actually thought that map was quite humorous!

Call me old fashioned - but I'm with Jantra on this one. Maybe it's because I'm more than pleased with the name Cardiff? The associations I get in my head with that name are all pretty positive, the name doesn't need a trendy? re-brand! God knows that's almost as bad as Cardiff City playing in red. I'm wondering how many that use the term the Diff are actually from... the Diff

You guys are all missing the point. While it's a pity the Eastern Bay link is being done cheaply, some may argue half a solution is better than none.

As someone that I assume is a fair bit younger than most on here, I can confirm that the pet name "The 'Diff" is common tongue among young people. Sorry guys! It's not meant to be trendy, it's just a playful name that's sprung up recently. Like people calling Amsterdam "The 'Dam".

I loves the 'diff is a proper company. They sell the taffywood mugs you see around the place. All the Welsh film titles and an 'I ❤s the 'Diff' t shirt in the style of 'I ❤ NY'. Nothing to do with Media Wales.

What Cen said, and many of the people I know that say it are from the valleys/slightly further west. It is what it is.

Friends of mine in London and elsewhere refer to Cardiff as The 'Diff. I like it, it's a fond name, they all love the city. Don't see the issue to be honest.

Yes it's very possible that shall we say the more mature amongst us (old gits!) probably haven't warmed to the.. 'The Diff' term. In the great scheme of things it's probably quite a positive thing for Cardiff but for myself a bit like the term 'sick' for something that clearly isn't!? there are some things that age just seems to preclude you from accepting! It's not easy being a fossil y'know
