That's my point. They aren't easy to confuse if you are familiar with them. Rotherham is an almost charmless dump whereas Doncaster is an attractive town with many beautiful buildings and neighbourhoods.

I know Yorkshire very well having lived there for many years. Hallam in Sheffield is the most affluent constituency outside the south east of England. Halifax, Bradford, Huddersfield and Wakefield all have incredible Georgian and Victorian architecture in largely intact central areas. There's a tendency to consign these places to the "shithole" category but they certainly outshine their Welsh equivalents, namely Newport, Merthyr and Swansea. In my opinion anyway.

I was taking the pish out of yorkshire in general.

Whilst Hallam is alright, i'm not sure its as affluent as say Alderley Edge or Bath, but I may be wrong.

According to this https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... 15_14.xlsx

you're on the ball. But if you look at this map

http://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/cgi- ... d%20Hallam

you can see that Hallam draws its electorate largely from the city of Sheffield itself, rather than commuter towns and villages as is the case with Tatton (the constituency in which Alderley Edge is placed).

So my point is that Sheffield contains, within its urban area, a constituency which is very affluent even in U.K. terms. Comparing it to the income figures for Cardiff North underlines this fact - they're considerably higher in Hallam.

Still, nice to have a civilised debate and to be corrected by you, Jantra.

thats a fair point you make apropos of ward size. i would imagine comparing clifton in bristol would probably have been better.

I've done no research and its just me thinking out loud so it could be nonsense, but you could probably argue Hensol is even more affluent with its 4 houses all valued over £1m each

Hallam is famously wealthy but I'm not sure it's such a wonderful distinction for Sheffield. I don't believe it's a hugely prosperous city so to have one area that is so much more affluent might seem rather divisive.

I've never been there though and my main interest in it was really over a bet with a political friend as to whether Nick Clegg would lose his seat at the general election. I thought it possible but my friend who lived in the area scoffed at the idea.

Frank, my point is that northern England shouldn't equal "shithole". Even though I am a Welsh nationalist I see a lot to commend in England. Large parts of Sheffield are quite grim so having an affluent quarter is a benefit, I'd say. Sheffield's universities are highly rated and they are the driver of the Hallam economy.

Anyway, roll on tomorrow night. I'd be satisfied with a draw against Derby County, who are seriously underperforming.

Wow! That was one of our best ever performances! everything clicked that night. But I'm not greedy I'll settle for half of that tonight! in fact I'll be over the moon with 3 points. My worry, is that surely Derby can't be as bad as there league position suggests, I don't want us to be their 'turning point'. Oh well Que Sera, the thing is I'm actually looking forward to it!! which is a bit of a rarity this season so far

Me too. I haven't looked forward to a City match this much for ages. And by the look of the photos you post from the CCS, my ST seat is about 10 away from yours Paul.
