There were (around about 12 months ago) plans for a major refurbishment of Hodge House, but I believe they were largely hinged upon keeping a certain tenant who now has plans to leave. It'll be interesting to see if those plans come back to life. With a major tenant moving out it would make any construction work a lot easier.

I'm a little surprised Hugh James is taking up just the 100k that has been announced. The article says they are a "growing" firm and part of this move is about facilitating such growth. On the other hand they are taking the same amount of space (100k) as their two existing offices (70k and 30k). Does this then mean that they will have to intensify use of space, and thats more possible in modern offices (with more scope for open plan layouts, hot-desking, etc). Its just a big contrast wit h the other 'fast growing firm', Motonovo, who have doubled their space in their move to Central Square.

I know it's not new but it appears certain that the Dept of Media and Journalism at Cardiff Uni will be taking space at No 2 Central Square. There is an app in for change of use to educational (non-residential).

There is also an app in for variation in conditions relating to the public realm. The DAS has some very good renders of the public realm st up and the material sto be used as well as renders of No 2 and the BBC. Leaving aside the issues relating to the transport interchange this part of the scheme really looks like a step up in quality for Cardiff office developments. I hope it continues with the proposed public sector hub for Wood St/Havelock St.
