Planning app gone in for the reduction in height, still the same floor count and still a little over 80m, looks like the Herbert street tower is going to be slightly taller than this one.

Refer to my previous post, they're the current levels. You'll notice that the floor level of the roof ties up with the revised planning drawings.

I'm really not sure about this tower. The renders are so poor it's difficult to get a sense of what it will look like, but it looks a bit of a mess to me.

I remember the DAS talked a good game (as did the DAS for the Custom House Street Tower - I believe they are the same architects?) and generally slagged off the rest of Cardiff's tall buildings. On the back of that I was expecting something more than this, although that may have been naivety on my part. After all this is student resi and there is no student resi in the city that is anything other than disappointing at best and utter filfth at worst.

What don't you like about it? I've always thought this building looked a step above almost everything else in the city. Admiral HQ and the Clayton (formerly Maldron) Hotel are the only modern buildings I'd consider in the same league when it comes to quality.

Oh, and No.1 Central Square, which looks great and I believe was designed by the same architects? (Rio)

I think the tower should look quite glassy with some nice touches of colour that will look good on drab days. I think it will be the best looking tall in Cardiff and definitely a cut above the others.

I know I'm a little biased given my involvement, but I agree, I think it'll look really good and age well, certainly the taller bits. I've also seen the sample panel produced by the cladding manufacturer and it's quality!

I love the look of this building, providing it turns out like the renders. Plus I like rio architects work, no1 central square is probably the best looking modern building in Cardiff (in my opinion)
