Charles Street Mixed Use Development with Tower

Peririannydd, what is the outside of this tower made up of? It looks like copper. And also, what is the height of this tower actually going to be?

Regarding height:
There is a Ground Floor, Mezz, Level 1 - Level 26 (Roof), so 27 storeys in total.
Ground Floor = +00.000m
Level 26 (Roof) = +77.850m
Parapet of Facade = +80.700m
Smoke Shaft = TBC, but probably around 81.500m.

So we're looking at something around 81m above Bridge St pavement level.

Regarding materials, these have been put in for planning permission sign-off now. There are a variety of the materials to be used, particularly at the lower levels and the 10-storey section will be brick effect.

The tower itself will be a unitised system, combining glass, glass windows covered in annodised aluminum mesh (looks like copper and will weather like copper) and glass-fibre-reinforced concrete which looks very much like a portland stone. I've seen photos of the sample panel made by the cladding manufacturer and it is quality stuff and should age well! Should for the price.

Irrespective of whether the bulk of it will be used for student accomodation, I think this scheme will really add a lot to Cardiff. Now that it's going up, it's really exciting to be a part of it.

It's certainly going to brighten up Bridge Street. I'm really looking forward to watching it go up.

It would be nice to see something to happen to the Rapport site as well now. It's been in the running for a couple of projects over the years (Admiral and HMRC) plus at least one other mixed-use proposal.

I'd be able to see it from my window a few miles away if it were not so blinkin' murky.

Well I know it's one heck of a crane but it's obviously causing a few headaches as it was supposed to be up'n'running today.

Hopefully it wil be up and running in the next coupe of days. I really am quite excited about this one.

Regarding the tower crane... Having chatted to a friendly watkin-jones employee (hope you're looking in Stuart!) on site today, it would seem that the wind stopped play last weekend. So it looks like nothing more will happen until this weekend coming. Therefore my photoshop effort above will have to do us for now!!

Well yes, but only as much as the business end of the crane is to go on top - that will certainly add some height.
