Hmm, that's strange. I didn't think there was any planned retail space in the BBC HQ. I would have thought next spring was a bit ambitious too. Isn't the fit-out due for completion in late 2019?

BBC fit out is scheduled to take an age; and then there is testing, etc. But I think the building itself will be completed towards the end of this year, allowing occupiers of the commercial units to take occupation Q1 or Q2 next year.

And I think there are a few units planned, including some cafes which will have views into (and maybe access into) the circulation space on the ground floor of the BBC building.

If they plan to do that then surely that means the 300,000 sq ft office will be quite tall given the smaller footprint.

So theyre going to try and fit a 270,000 sq ft office (presumably for HMRC) in a plot half the size? Looking good for a tall tower then!

270,000 sq. ft. office block proposed for wood street where the St David's house is, is this big?

how big is number 1 central square? 100k sqft, lets assume it is. this new build would be 3 times the size of that...

edit, number 1 is it is 135,000 sqft, therefore, this new build will be 2x the size of number 1. if they have the same footprint that is 18 storeys or so

If they're talking about developing a new square at Wood Street then is there enough space for a Number 1 sized footprint?

I would think not, as Number 1 is pretty wide. Surely we'd have to see some height to take it up to 270,000 sq ft with a reasonably sized square? This is without the other plots that are planned in that area.

Even if I'm wrong, an 18 storey building with the width of One Central Square would still look very impressive if the design is good. Like a modernised Brunel House (235,000 sq ft, by the way).

I wonder if we'll find out more about this tomorrow as the council have a meeting on the demolition of St Davids house, which presumably is all linked with hmrc plans for the old western mail plot. They are certainly busy on that plot so maybe decisions have already been made? I'm thinking more of a big substantial lump for hmrc (as jantra said 18 storeyish) rather than a slender tower originally proposed for the plot. Still hopefully I'm completely off the mark and we get that tower that dwarfs stadium house!! it'll just be good to know

Tŷ Admiral - which is 11 floors of offices plus a double height ground floor and a double height top floor (so in effect as tall as a fifteen story office block) is 220,000 square feet.

It occupies a site with a footprint roughly 60% the size of the vacant land on Park Street. If the whole of the footprint is built on then I'd estimate that the new building of 270,000 sq ft will be about 9 storeys high - a double height ground floor with seven or eight storeys above.

So no tower I'm afraid.
