There is currently an application in with the council now.

News article on WalesOnline about the proposed work - they reckon it will be open before Christmas... http://www.walesonline.co.uk/business/b ... it-7784833

Work on the Capitol Cinema refurb has started:

My scepticism is fading rapidly, this looks like it's going to actually happen.

This will help footfall a bit as long as they use the centre entrance as well, I think the Capitol owners need to look at restaurant and bar uses for their empty units and make it a destination leisure venue. All they need now is a bowling alley in the Index unit :D

Premiere Cinemas is opening in two weeks time on March 20th. The old centre entrance upstairs is being refurbished too, so there will be a highly promoted entrance from within the centre.

Yeah, if I were them I would be getting some A3 units in upstairs. Offer good deal on the rent (better than it being empty, and having to pay the business rates), and hope they bring some footfall through the centre, alongside the cinema, particularly on weekends. Over time as it builds popularity, you can up rents. Strong demand for A3 space in St Davids is probably allowing them to push up rents quite considerably at rent review.

Not sure what they could put in the index unit now tbh.. could it be linked somehow to the cinema (underground) for an extra screen or two (if demand is there)?

Apparently, they are being marketed quite heavily as food outlets, and there are interested parties but these are waiting to see the impact the opening has on footfall.

£4 a ticket? That'll put the cat amongst the pigeons with the other cinema chains. Good-oh.

Is it opening "in April" then, as per that Western Mail article, or "March 20th", as per Amoore?

Anybody know the definitive answer?

Those art deco cinemas really are beautiful to look at. It's a shame they were pulled down.

I'm sure ash said there was one on Cowbridge road West in Ely which was covered up. Criminal.

Opening was delayed due to technical difficulties installing the new projection equipment, but the date has now been confirmed as next Friday, 17th.
