This is one of those rare occasions where everyone agrees with Jantra! That white render and wood finish that you see so much of is very cheap and nasty.

I for one am hoping that this design and scale is a sign of things to come for this city. Reading articles where councillors are worried at the sheer scale of the project need only look at any other city in the uk of a similar size to realise that we are actually a long way behind in regards to standard of build and height. We are not a geneva or Bordeaux with low historical structures. We are a new capital city that needs new well built, buildings of scale.

Forward thinking, ambitious individuals are exactly what we need if we are to progress and compete with other locations around the country. Lets hope we see some movement on the ground very soon!

I couldn't agree more. I think the cluster of towers planned on either side of the main railway line could provide a real sense of arrival for the city. We need a bit of urban density in the city centre.

Firstly, I like the proposed tower. I think the colour scheme is appropriate. Secondly, I agree with the comment about the entrance to city from the east. Along with Central Square this really could represent a step change in initial impression.

I am also excited to see the tower near Churchill Way progress. This will, if built, add welcome depth to the city centre.

They need to start building. Other cities are leaving Cardiff behind at the moment and swansea may take over if we worry about all the tall building instead if building them to get that international feel

To day they will be in front of the planners

Let's hope they get approved :))))

If they get approval wonder what date work will commence???

Hopefully will be great to have a true skyscraper in Cardiff, could even push other future developments higher

Fingers crossed

The danger is that the building is so narrow it just looks like a bean-pole. I'm also a little concerned about it being student letting. Are we talking freshers or post-grads here. I'm not sure a bunch of kids who've just left home for the first time would necessarily be the best residents for such a building.

As for this 'international' feel, what does that mean? What Cardiff needs are good quality jobs and yes, hopefully well designed buildings and space that will attract visitors.

Why ? How is living in an apartment in a city centre tower any different than a house in Cathays for an 18 year old living away from home ?

And the building isn't THAT narrow and is ONLY 40odd floors tall. That's the point in all of this, it isn't that tall when compared to what some other cities are building elsewhere. It's all relative. It's 2016 and these days those sorts of buildings are becoming normal in modern cities. Some people like tall and slender skyscrapers, some don't. Some people (like yourself) want more open space in the city, I think there's plenty.

It all depends on what you want in a city doesn't it ? We have a tiny population and a small skyline, taller buildings give an impression of a thriving forward looking city. Even if it's a student building it will show Cardiff as thinking positively. It will show Cardiff as a young city where lots of students like to come and study, and if they hang around they'll provide resources for those good quality jobs you and everyone else wants here.

If I was a young 18 year old kid I know where I'd want to live.

It's a matter of personal taste, I guess, but I prefer the modern 'skinny towers' to the traditional bulky skyscrapers. With the right cladding they can look fantastic. This one in Collins st., Melbourne is built on a far narrower site than the proposed Cardiff one - it's a mere twelve yards wide!
