Given that the timeline for this project is completion in summer 2018 hadn't they better get a move on? (and Bridge Street for that matter) Admittedly I'm concerned as I really hope that this building actually happens! Now I know that 2 years is still perhaps plenty of time - but in 'Cardiff construction times' surely their comes a time when it passes a deadline and would be pushed to summer 2019, if indeed it happens at all :| Mind you if they've got some Chinese contractors lined up then it could pop up over night! :)

It seems like Watkin Jones are still going strong. Maybe it has something to do with their intention of floating on the stock exchange? Could it also be possible that the referendum result has scuppered the plans due to less investment in the construction industry? Either way I'm still hopeful. Student accommodation is usually a very safe bet.

Yes hopefully all is well with both the prestigious Watkin Jones projects planned for the city centre. But surely we would need to see some activity soonish if they have any hope of advertising accommodation for term commencement september 2018.

Considering how rapidly the commercial property market seems to be collapsing (thanks Brexit!!) we'll be lucky to see any new projects start until the 2020s at this rate.

One thing I have always said about bubbles........
Maybe the money might be put into UK Manufacturing R&D rather than easy come, easy go, property speculation.

Does also this mean "Bayscape" might have to be reconsidered?

The delay in this project has absolultely nothing to do with Brexit! I know that for a fact!

I doubt this will be built. Said before and say it again.. Cardiff is not ambitious enough and thinks like a large town

I can't elaborate further, but there's still a firm intention to build this tower. If it gets canned, then it won't be down to a lack of ambition.

Cheers Peiriannydd you do seem to have knowledge of what the actual position is regarding commencement or not of this development. Just wondering if any doubts about whether or not it goes ahead also include the other project in Bridge Street ? or is that a completely seperate issue. Sorry to pry but you know how it is here! :)

I would imagine it's a complicated project to manage, particularly at the start convincing nearby stakeholders like
Network Rail that the main line won't be affected etc.

Building something that tall and on such a small footprint is bound to have its challenges.

Hopefully we'll see them on site sometime this year but I'm not surprised one bit that there's a delay.
