New tower crane under construction to the west of the the currently half built building.

That can't be for the current under construction building surely?

If it's to the west then it's the multi-story car park maybe? I did see a fair amount going on at that plot when I travelled by train the other day.

I'd expect a start soon on the student housing plots as well, but that's to the east of Number 2

Here's a few photos from Capital Quarter. One shows they are putting decent cladding on the front of number 2 (I especially like the shiny red panels which are just starting to appear). So at least the Tyndall Street frontage will look good.

The sides and back look to be getting the same treatment as number 1. I guess that's a reflection of the location of the development (not prime) and the fact that it is being built speculatively (meaning costs need to be managed).

The other two photos confirm that the new tower crane is indeed for the multi storey car park.

Incidentally, the ground floor unit on number 1 is available to let for A3 use. Can't see this being let until at least the student accommodation is built and there've been a few more lettings in the upper floors and in number 2.

Apologies for the photos being side on and upside down. For some reason I can't use built-in Microsoft photo software to rotate images taken on my phone (unless someone can explain how) and the amount of faffing involved in uploading them to the web made me lose the will to live!! Will make sure I take upright photos next time

Agreed on the tyndall street frontage. I think it does look a lot higher spec for offices than we've been used to in cardiff. It reminds me of palestra in Southwark

You'd like to think the student housing part of it would start relatively soon.

In the link below the company that purchased the plots from JR Smart say they will have it finished by Quarter 3 2017, would that point to a start on site sometime this year maybe ?

I'm also curious about the apartments on Herbert Street and when they might start. It's been a while since we've heard anything about them.

It seems they've changed the design of those apartments. Not sure if I like the change.
Planning documents from 22nd May show a much darker building.

New images. Far too grey and gloomy for my liking. I liked the original design.

I really like that actually, yes it's quite dark but it's a change from all the cream and white colours we seem to have everywhere. Has it been granted permission yet? Would love to see this start construction soon.

Curious what sweetfeet said about lettings at number 1 and number 2 above, do you know who they are?
